Local Law Enforcement
Approximately 50 vehicles have been covered with what seems to be blood from a person in the Germany's town of Hanau close to Frankfurt, police confirm law enforcement.
Vehicles, exterior walls and postboxes were marked, in some cases with swastikas, they reported in a statement.
Officers state they were notified during the night on Wednesday, when a resident discovered that a vehicle in the Lamboy neighborhood of Hanau had been marked with a reddish fluid.
The substance had been applied in the shape of a Nazi symbol, they added.
Law enforcement then found numerous other smeared automobiles and building exteriors in the adjacent neighborhood.
These symbols are illegal in Germany under legislation outlawing the visible presentation of Nazi-era symbols.
Law enforcement report initial examinations indicate the fluid was most likely human blood.
"There is still no lead as to its source; officials are not yet informed of any injuries in connection with the incident," they commented.
City officials said they were attempting "to unravel the mystery" and have asked to the residents for tips.
A senior official commented the incident made him speechless and had to be addressed quickly.
"This event strikes at the very heart of Hanau and revives the wounds of the right-wing terrorist attack half a decade ago," he posted on a platform, referring to the death of nine victims by a shooter aiming at people of foreign heritage in five years prior.
